MAC/Sunbelt Challenge Matchups Announced!

The Matchups for the 2nd Annual MAC/Sun Belt Challenge were released yesterday. The cool part about this challenge is that ther be a second set of gamee wills that will released in January and played in February. I love the idea as it can help boost the conferences top teams in the middle of season as they look to improve their NCAA Tournament Resume.

Top Matchups

James Madison at Kent State - Kent St. is coming off an NCAA tournament appearance where they gave Notre Dame everything they could handle. Kent State returns 2 of their top 3 scorers and should be among the favorites in the MAC. JMU is always a one of the top mid-majors in WBB and this year will be no different. They will led by 2023 All-Sun Belt performer Peyton McDaniel.

Marshall at Toledo - This is an interesting match-up because both programs are led by new head coaches, after Kim Caldwell left for Tennessee after leading Marshall to the Sun Belt title and NCAA Tournament in her first and only year with the program. Toledo’s longtime Head Coach Tricia Cullop left for Miami so the Rockets will be led by Ginny Boggess, who comes from Monmouth University where she brought that program back from the dead.

Troy at Buffalo - Troy is coming off a 22 win season and a run to the “Fab 4” in the WNIT. Chanda Rigby always seems to have Troy as one of the best mid-major programs in the country and this year should be no different. Over in Buffalo, Becky Burke seems to have things heading in the right direction after experiencing some turnover in staff and her roster in her first two years.

Old Dominion at Ball State - Ball State is coming off a great season, where they unfortunately were upset in the MAC Tournament by Kent State. They shouldn’t experience too much of a drop off with the their top 2 scorers, Madelyn Bischoff & Ally Becki coming back. That should make them the MAC favorite coming into the year. DeLisha Milton-Jones has done a great job at ODU since taking over in 2020 and they will enter the season as one of the top teams in the Sunbe
